On 7/7, we were so sad to leave Nice, especially after the most amazing night. We had to leave our hostel at 6am, so by the time we got back after dinner and packed up, we did not get much sleep. Luckily we made it to the train station on time and it was a gorgeous ride along the coast to Marseille, especially in the morning light. So peaceful! 2 hours later, it was not quite as peaceful when we had a 7 minute turn around at the Marseille station. We ultimately made it on our train to Béziers (another French town) after asking an employee and hoping they were right. And they were! That was another 2 hours, and in Béziers we hopped on the train straight to Barcelona. We slept the whole time on our backpacks for the last 2 hours of our train adventure. We arrived at the Barcelona station and got a taxi straight to our hostel and napped for the rest of the day, before heading out for late night tapas of course!
Francesca and Tyler were supposed to arrive at around 10pm in Barcelona where we would meet at the hostel… but there were crazy delays and apparently a wildfire in France, and they were taking the bus all the way from Sain Jean de Luz on the other side of France. Anyways, they ended up showing up at 6am! Tyler left just a couple hours later to make his next train, and me, Emma and Frenchie slept very late. We spent this day just wandering around, looking at stores, drinking our first glasses of Sangria, and we got some of the best gelato of the trip. This night, Emma was not feeling good so it was just me and Frenchie that went out for tapas and sangria and walked around!
The next day, poor Emma woke up still not feeling well so she decided to sleep it off. Frenchie and I on the other hand were eager to explore Barcelona! We first got breakfast at a cafe and then decided to walk 40 minutes to the Catalonian Art Museum. Honestly, I’m glad we decided to walk instead of take a taxi because we got to pass so many cool streets. The art museum is in a beautiful old palace with marble steps, ancient architecture and a fountain. You walk up the stairs and it’s a beautiful lookout over the city. We stopped and admired the view with an Aquarius, and then we went inside the museum and explored. We ended up climbing all the way to the top for the ultimate lookout where you could literally see every corner of Barcelona!
Emma was awake and feeling better, so we set out together to go to Mercat de la Boqueria, right off the chaotic shopping street La Rambla. Here, we got some paella and fresh fruit and walked around, although it was hectic and overstimulating. Hours later, we got ready and went to a club called Razz Matazz, where they had live dancers on the stage and crazy colorful lights and lasers.
